La discussion est difficile car elle mélange les genres.

1. La politique de nombreux éditeurs face à leurs auteurs est digne de l’exploitation. N’oublions pas que sur le prix d’un livre l’auteur ne touche qu’environ 10% des droits (sauf dans certaines maisons d’éditions numériques).

2. La disponibilité des titres épuisés qui ne seront jamais réimprimés par un éditeur est un gros problème.

3. L’impossibilité pour certains auteurs de jouir de leur texte une fois cette édition épuisée est anormale.

4. Google indexe les livres des auteurs sans le demander est en effet à discuter.

5. Google empêchant l’accès aux livres tombés dans le domaine public qu’ils ont numérisé est anormal. (Au moins le gouvernement français a négocié avec les mormons pour les microfilms d’état civil d’en avoir une copie libre d’utilisation)

Finalement, toutes ces batailles légales ne protègent pas les auteurs mais le gagne-pain des maisons d’éditions qui font un revenu plus ou moins important sur une économie d’échelle. Et c’est cela qui dérange certains auteurs.

Les professions qui auront dû mal (ou vont en partie disparaître) dans les années qui viennent :

* éditeur

* imprimeur

Les auteurs (la littérature) continueront de vivre. Ils ne gagnaient déjà pas leur vie avec les livres.

Support Structure is an architectural interface. Support Structure aims to create a space which is continuously reinvented by its users in relation to its context. Support Structure houses artefacts as well as activities and aids reconsideration of existing spaces as an impulse for future change. Support Structure is an evolving collaborative project between architect Celine Condorelli and artist-curator Gavin Wade. Our aim is to design and create a universally adaptable support structure that approaches the specific rather than the generic. To achieve this we are putting Support Structure through a learning process.

Support Structures is a manual for what bears, sustains, props, and holds up. It is a manual for those things that encourage, give comfort, approval, and solace; that care for and provide consolation and the necessities of life. It is a manual for that which assists corroborates, advocates, articulates, substantiates, champions, and endorses; for what stands behind, underpins, frames, presents, maintains, and strengthens. Support Structures is a manual for those things that give, in short, support. While the work of supporting might traditionally appear as subsequent, unessential, and lacking value in itself, this manual is an attempt to restore attention to one of the neglected, yet crucial modes through which we apprehend and shape the world.

More than 23 million records have been added to WorldCat.org results this month from a group project called OAIster.

OAIster represents the initiatives that many libraries, museums and archives have taken in recent years to digitize their historic artifacts and make them open to the online world. Including them now in WorldCat increases the visibility of these collections and ensures continued access.

Il y aura aussi Gilles Herman, avec qui je repiquerai même lieu à 14h pour une autre table ronde "faut-il avoir peur du livre numérique".

Tony White is the author of novels including Foxy-T (Faber and Faber) and the non-fiction work Another Fool in the Balkans.
